There are two tours: 10-11:30 am & 12-1:30 pm, free
Get the real dirt on Downtown Hampton’s storied past as the James River Institute for Archaeology, Inc.’s leading archaeologist, Nick Luccketti, and historian Michael Cobb, take you on a tour of excavation sites they unearthed, as well as discoveries made before their time, all in walking distance of the Hampton History Museum.
Meet your guides in the lobby to hear what was uncovered where the museum now stands. Then venture to familiar locales including the Virginia Air and Space Center, Hampton Carousel, Crowne Plaza Marina, and areas of more recent finds such as Old Point Bank and the Contraband Camp. The entire walk is about 1.5 miles and will conclude back at the museum.
Each tour is limited to 30 people. Reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis by calling the museum at 757-727-1610.
The Hampton History Museum is located at 120 Old Hampton Lane in Downtown Hampton. There is free parking in the garage across the street from the museum.
